The ARTE commissioned documentary Sir Anthony and Hannibal Hopkins” was completed just in time for Anthony Hopkins to receive his second Oscar for “The Father”. He had won his first Oscar in 1992 for “The Silence of the Lambs” and was nominated for his appearances in „Remains of the Day“ (1993), „Nixon“ (1995), „Amistad“ (1997) and „The Two Popes“ (2019) and in 2008 was bestowed the BAFTA Fellowship for Lifetime Achievement. Using interviews spanning his whole career and clips from his major movies, filmmakers Clara and Julia Kuperberg find out how the son of a baker from a suburb of Port Talbot in Wales became the quintessential British actor in Hollywood, what he had in common with the characters he played, and how he became the highest paid British actor without ever following any acting trends.
